Precision is the family trade.
Lukes & Lukes is an independent, nationwide machinery and equipment appraisal firm. Here is who signs the report, the credentials behind the signature, and the standard every assignment is held to.
Who we are
An independent machinery and equipment appraisal firm.
Lukes & Lukes is a national, independent firm that appraises machinery and equipment for the moments when a number has to withstand scrutiny: a loan, an SBA file, an acquisition, an audit, the IRS, a court. We work across healthcare and medical, automotive, and general industry, and we bring the same care to every assignment, whatever the equipment and whoever is going to read the report.
The firm is new. The team is not. We spent seven years building and refining the appraisal product inside national appraisal firms: the report formats, the documentation standards, the way a report is delivered and defended. In 2026 we hung our own shingle. The same two people who built that work for other firms now do it under their own name, accountable for every line.
We are not the cheapest, and we do not try to be. We compete on defensibility. Each opinion of value is developed under USPAP, documented in full, and built to hold up when someone with a reason to disagree reads it closely.
CEO & lead appraiser
Jared Lukes
Jared leads the firm and the appraisal work, and signs the firm's name to the result. His view of the craft is simple: an asset is worth a number, and that number is either defensible or it is not. There is no almost.
He came to appraisal from highly regulated technology, where documentation has to satisfy examiners as well as readers, and from years spent rebuilding customer service operations for client companies. Both habits carried over. The scrutiny shows up in the report. The service shows up in an engagement that is communicated clearly from first call to delivered report.
That conviction sets how the firm scopes each engagement, selects and reconciles the approaches to value, and documents the reasoning, so a reviewer can follow the number from evidence to conclusion.
Report writer & audit specialist
Jesse Lukes
Jesse came up inside the bank. A Hamline University graduate, he originated loans and reviewed collateral at BMO, and he has written appraisals alongside the firm for years. He has sat on the underwriting side of the desk, so he knows which lines a credit officer checks first, and our appraisals answer those questions before anyone has to ask.
Most appraisal firms are appraiser-only. Lukes & Lukes pairs the appraisal craft with real lender fluency and an academic discipline about the report itself: what each section is for, what its reader needs from it, and how a modern report should be organized. That is why the report lands cleanly on a credit desk, in an SBA file, or under an examiner's review.
Credentials & standard
The standard behind the signature.
Every appraisal is independent and prepared under USPAP, the framework that governs credible appraisal practice in the United States. The work is performed by a NEBB-certified Machinery & Equipment Appraiser (CMEA), and every report passes a senior review before it leaves the firm.
- USPAP-compliant on every assignment, regardless of premise or intended use
- NEBB-certified Machinery & Equipment Appraiser (CMEA)
- Independent of the deal, the lender and the parties
- Lender-fluent, with collateral and credit experience inside the report
- Defensible, built to withstand lender, SBA, IRS, audit and legal review
Experience
Across the institutions that own the assets and finance the deals.
Our principals have consulted and performed analysis for organizations across healthcare, automotive and finance. That experience, on both the asset side and the lending side, is why our reports speak the language of the people who rely on them: the lender underwriting the collateral, the CFO closing the deal, the attorney building the record, the auditor signing off.
An asset is worth a number, and that number is either defensible or it isn't. There is no almost.
The Lukes family trade was precision. We are great-grandsons of clockmakers on both sides of the family, and the care once given to movements and mechanisms now goes into machinery and equipment: measured, documented, accountable to the people who act on it. We make it work like clockwork. It is in the DNA.
